The Normal Brand is the result of a couple young guys on a mission to redefine “normal.” Fast-forward two years and here we are still on the same mission, trying to answer the same question – how can we revamp your everyday Normal?

Working in this business, we have the privilege to meet other companies and individuals who are amplifying their Normal on a daily basis, and we’ve been impressed by their stories. We found a video production company—Once Films—made up of filmmakers who share our passion for storytelling. Naturally, we decided to create something together. 

The first story in our rebooted Redefining Normal series spotlights an awesome guy who built a company that builds quality products in a way that challenges the Norm.

Barry Craft, owner of Reclaim Renew, has had an interesting path to becoming a builder. He went from a pastor who didn’t feel like he was making a difference to a full-time salesman without a passion for his work.

He has a background in art and loved building, but he never believed he could make it his profession until he made an outdoor bar, which he unexpectedly built and sold within 12 hour. Soon after, he became infatuated with barn wood. He started buying and storing old damaged wood to build tables with. The more he built, the more he saw carpentry as an opportunity to combine his passion for helping people with his passion for building.

Just like the old wood, Barry believes that people also deserve a second chance at life. Determined to find a way to help others, he started employing refugees and people just out of prison. These employees have gained solid work experience, but importantly, they’ve been able to build relationships with each other. Through Reclaim Renew, Barry has given these people a makeshift family and a platform to embrace a fresh start.

We feel really lucky to have met Barry, and even luckier that we now get to work with him. He’s building signs for our retail partners, creating pieces for upcoming pop-up shops, and helping with more projects in the works.
